Historical Pampanga: Interesting tidbits and historical treasures in Pampanga

Emilio Aguinaldo Portrait from Malacanang Palace
On my research, there are many historical places to visit in Pampanga ranging from the adobe heritage houses dating back from the Spanish colonial times to other historical related and significant any visitor should visit.

In 1762-1763, the town of Bacolor was the capital of the Philippines during the British occupation of Manila in  when the Spaniards under Simon de Anda retreated in this town.

The San Fernando Train Station were our national hero, Jose Rizal disembarked for a stopover and recruit new members for La Liga Filipina on June 27, 1892.

In 1899, Emilio Aguinaldo moved the Capital of the First Philippine Republic from Malolos to several towns to escape American Forces. The Pamintuan House / Mansion located in Miranda Street corner of Sto. Entierro Street became the headquarters and palace of Phillippine revolutionary government. The town of Bacolor was the capital of the Philippines during the British occupation of Manila  when the Spaniards under Simon de Anda retreated in this town.

From Philippine Daily Inquirer
50 years later, during the beginnings of World War II in Asia and Pacific, the San Fernando train station is a witness of the Bataan Death March where countless lives of Americans and Filipinos soldiers died of exhaustion or torture from the Japanese. These men fought bravely and gallantly in the service to their country and freedom of the land. After the horrendous five day march from Mariveles, Bataan to San Fernando, Pampanga. The exhausted and defeated troop embarked on a precarious train journey to Camp O' Donnell, Tarlac to be interned as prisoners of war there.

Old churches from the Spanish period built around around the 19th centuries are still in existence and are used by clergy till the modern times. There are many in the town of Bacolor that were buried in lahar in the early 1990s. Those that are preserved and declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines; Santa Monica and Santo Domingo parish churches in Mexico town; San Luis Gonzaga Parish Church in San Luis town; and San Bartolome Parish Church in Magalang town.

Kampangans have the taste buds and the skills to cook

It is no doubt Pampanga has been designated the culinary center of the Philippines. The famous sisig was first made here as a snack by Lucinda "Aling Lucing" Cunanan also known as "Sisig Queen". The sisig was featured in one of Anthony Bourdain's "NO RESERVATIONS", a TV show in TLC.
Stuffed frogs also known in Pampango dialect as "Betuteng tugak" is such a delicacy for all those who one to try out of this world or exotic type of grub. Another of the delicacies that any food lover should try is the "Camaru" or fried or sauteed crickets. the sauteed or fried crickets are eaten by most of the liquor drinkers. This the food taken with alcohol.

Retiring in the Philippine: Come to Pampanga!

In the next 5 years, the number of baby boomers (born after World War II) are steadily rising and are reaching in theirs ages of 60s and 70s. Facilities for these demographics had been widely discussed in the video segment below. The province in part has accredited facilities for those foreign expats wishing to retire in a sunny and ambient climate in this country. Some of the medical clinics, hospitals and medical professionals are gearing up their medical tourism marketing strategies. Others are looking on retirement and recreational facilities available for possible foreign expatriates / retirees.

A great number of retirees in the Angeles City area are former servicemen from the U.S. military bases in Clark which operated till 1992. People from western nations same with other Asian nationalities such as South Koreans are coming here in droves to do business, work and study or even start a family.
